Yes, Yes, it’s my 32nd Birthday!
I love my birthday. I eat whatever I want, throw spontaneous dance parties all day long, lounge in the sun (fact: it has been sunny EVERY year on my birthday for my entire life), and let my friends and family shower me with love.
Yes, I really do LOVE my birthday.
I know that I’ve been MIA for a while. I have good reasons, which I’ll be letting you in on in the coming weeks and months, but let’s just say that there have been a lot of VERY BIG CHANGES in my life. For now, I leave you with a gift.
This is a poem I wrote myself this morning — an ode to me. I recommend you write one to yourself, too.
Dearest Body of Mine,
We have weathered much together.
Painful moments,
Unbearable pleasure,
Vacancy.
And I have watched you grow + change,
adopting characteristics I love
– a softening of the eyes + stomach –
and a few that, as you know,
have been harder to stomach.
And, I love you.
And each day I am finding new appreciation for small things…
A fresh gray hair,
The lines at the corner of my lips that will never leave,
Your whispers.
And with all of these discoveries I am reminded
of our journey, and I feel a deepening
adoration of this landscape.
