Last year, on a journey to Peru, I had a vision in a meditation:
I saw myself in Sedona, joined by my friend KC Baker {founder of the Women’s Thought Leadership Society}, while she officiated a marriage ceremony…to myself. In my meditation, I saw the ring, heard the vows, and felt the breeze on my cheeks. I instantly recoiled: “Um, no. I’m not going to MARRY MYSELF. That’s so ridiculous, so crazy, so… What would people think? Who do I think I am?!”
And yet, the vision was as clear as any memory I’ve ever had.
I let down the walls of resistance and allowed myself to simply rest with the vision. In a short time, I was moved to tears with the beauty of it: to commit to be with myself for the rest of my life, to commit to being present with myself and my heart, to commit to showing up in devotion to my mission, and to commit to taking care of myself in this lifetime. The beauty of it was breathtaking. In that moment, I not only wanted it for me, I wanted it for every woman.
On a recent visit to Sedona to see KC and her family, this vision became a reality – she led me in a commitment ceremony to myself and my life’s work. Here are some pics of us:
In the short time since this ceremony, I’ve felt myself standing up and speaking up more powerfully, and from a more grounded place in my being.
My friends have shared that they feel me in a deeper embodiment of my power, and more devoted to my big vision for the world. I feel more confident, calm and focused. It’s been game-changing.
This past week, I gathered to mastermind (and laugh, cry and play) with a group of girlfriends, and we took it to the next level, committing to support one another in our missions in the world. We committed to not only show up and shine, but also to support one another in stepping into the next level of leadership, both within our circle and beyond. Here we are, celebrating over dinner (pictured: Jena LaFlamme, Jennifer Russell, LiYana Silver, Stacey Morgenstern, Wendy Yalom, Ali Shanti, and KC Baker (who was with us in spirit!)
—> Let me know in the comments how you’re committing yourself more deeply this week to your heart, your art, and your message.
I love it Nisha! I’m part of this new edition of WTLS and I already saw a ring in a store for my Commitment Ceremony. Reading your story gave me the idea to invite other girlfriends and do a celebration with great food, wine, etc. Like a real wedding. 🙂
Congratulations, Nisha. I think publicly committing to yourself – to love and honour your mind, body and spirit – is essential to true freedom. I’m so proud of you my heart is exploding!
What an incredible honor it was to be a part of this sacred ceremony with you, Nisha love. I fell so in love with you and am left really inspired to love myself even more deeply. Thank you for coming and being such a huge support to me and my little family last weekend. I cannot wait to see what emerges from you in all areas of your life after that wickedly powerful, gorgeous ceremony. xoxo KC
Nisha and KC… beautiful!
KC, your partnership with Nisha in committing to herself for life must have been a powerful experience, and the world is more luscious for it.
I had a commitment-to-self experience about six months ago, spontaneously in my car. I looked deep into my eye in the rearview mirror, as I often do when I’m telling myself something very important, and I cried with peaceful, joyful tears as I told myself, “I love you, Sarah. I will never leave you. Never, ever will I leave you. I will always love you. I will always be committed to you, your happiness, your health, your joy. There is no one on earth more important to me than you are. You are beyond precious to me, and I am honored to be you.”
Thank you Nisha and KC for re-presencing that powerful moment for me. You inspired me to enter it into my calendar on the first of each month to take a special day with just me and me, where I re-enter that commitment consciously.
May all women know the joy of this kind of commitment! A commitment that can only become deeper and sweeter and richer as it is held close throughout life.
Sarah, thank you so much for sharing this story, sister.
I love you and I am honored to have a peek into this precious moment.
Love always,
Nisha
Thank you, my dear KC. I love you beyond words…
So beautiful! I’m part of WTLS too and can’t wait to get started. Reading your words and the feelings they stir up made me realize even more that I’m at the beginning of an incredible journey.
Yay, Adrienn!
I hope you’re loving WTLS as much as I am.
Much love,
Nisha
Thanks for sharing this Nisha. I now include it in my mindfulness practice – to commit and honor myself and my vision. Thank you!
Beautiful, Maria. I love it as a part of daily practice.
Much love,
Nisha
Is magical that you were awake to sense an listen to yourself……..The first and most important commitment is with ourselves. What a lovely journey you did!!
Thank you, Maru. Much love to you, sister.
Thank you for sharing this story Nisha. I never really thought about things this way and it has opened my eyes. You are an inspiration.
Thank you so much for your comment, Amy, and thanks for reading!
my friend just sent this to me…these days I am no longer amazed at the signs the universe is sending me. as I navigate through a divorce i initially did not want, i now see and feel my power growing from within. for the first time i am taking care of me, nurturing me, loving me!!!
i adore this idea and believe this is the perfect way to set myself free from the pain and sadness i’ve lived with for the last few years. i know taking a vow like this will allow me to continue on a committed path toward self-love, making me a stronger, more giving person to this world + a better “molly” to everyone in my life, especially my children!
Thank you nisha! BLess!!!
Blessings for your ceremony, Molly. I went through a divorce myself, and I know how heart-wrenching they can be. Sending you so much love as you deepen into self-love!
